Apostrophy Designs

Apparently I couldn't wait until Friday, I'll spill the beans...I have decided to put my sewing machine to good work and have opened an etsy shop(http://www.apostrophy.etsy.com/). I got such an awesome response from the bag I made for the bag swap I did awhile ago, that I decided I would try making a few to sell.

**Have to thank my awesome sister-in-law AshTab for helping me take the awesome pictures!

So right now I am basically making two styles of bags... appliqued purses/totes & then fabric grocery bags, here are some pictures of each:

I had this really long post ready to go and when I hit publish it all disappeared. :(

I really love the groupes d'amour purse! I'd like to see summer colored purses in the future (coral, buttercream, light blue, etc.). I was thinking something solid colored on the outside with a floppy bow like:

http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_dynSessConf=7332215079218048751&id=843561&parentid=SB_TRAVEL_WEEKEND&pushId=SB_TRAVEL_WEEKEND&popId=SB_TRAVEL&sortProperties=&navCount=6&navAction=poppush&fromCategoryPage=true&selectedProductSize=&selectedProductSize1=&color=grn

Or anything girly like that. :)Then have bright patterned fabrics on the inside.

Super cute stuff Tori! I wish I could sew like that!

I love your bags! A few suggestions, since you asked:

Your pictures look dark, if you had better lighting, I think your awesome craftsmanship would look much better!

Also, I love the birds, I could be your signature! I would love to see more of them!

What about a small handbag?

Tor -

I'm so impressed! I want to buy one from you as a diaper bag...are they big enough? I can't get over how cute they are! Anj loves them too!

Kami said...

Oh and I like it all, but my favorite is the penguin with the big eyes. I also really like the inside fabrics of the purses...looks so good with the outside fabric.
A possible idea...would it be too hard to add an inside pocket?

I found you from Amy's blog. What cute bags! Having fairly recently moved to NYC, I've lately become a bit bag crazy, and have been on the hunt, high and low, for the *perfect* bag: one that is big, but not too big, is cute enough to use as a purse, and durable enough to tote around as a mini-diaper bag. I've come close to finding something I love, but no cigar yet. These are awesome, though....they definitely fit the "must-be-absolutely-darling" category. One thing I'd love to see in my perfect bag is a top zipper -- so I can keep my stuff IN and my kid's curious fingers OUT. I couldn't tell if yours have zippers or not, so if they don't, there's a suggestion from me. Either way, if you're giving one away, I'd be happy to take it off your hands. Because have I mentioned yet that these are awesome? They totally are.

So stinkin cute! Seriously, you don't give yourself enough credit. When you told me about this you totally played it down. I love both bags and purses.

I think you should make a few "little" girl bags that I could buy for Savannah and her friends "b-days" It would be the best little gift.

Now- I AM the winner:)

I love the pleated market bag with the bird and branch on it-to die for!! Congrats on opening an Etsy store, they are a lot of fun!! I hearted you!!

Adrienne Hansen said...

Ok Tor. I love the flower ones. The bird ones are way cute, but I'm a little bit scared of birds, so I lean towards the flowers. I agree with Megan that some summer colored bags would be fun. But all in all I totally love these bags and know that I will own very very many of them.

I love everything, I bookmarked your etsy site. The bags are fabulous!!

The bags are really nice... I think you need a new top banner. The red draws your attention, when I think the NAME should draw your attention. And you of course need to fill in some more of the sections of the site, like bio, terms, etc. but the bags - I think they are really a nice product.

I think the site should feature multiple pictures of me.

I love the owl bag! I collect owls since my Mother left me her collection. I think it would be nice to have a cat of some sort on your next bag. You know how we crazy cat people love our cats!

hiya! Traci told me all about your cute bags and etsy shop this morning while doing my hair. SOOOO cute! Congrats on your new adventure. I love the fabrics you have chosen. My favorite is the flowers with the yo-yos and buttons. If I had an idea for a bag it would be a bags with flowers and stem with of course of bird thrown in the mix somehow. It would also be really cute to have a butterfly. Congrats again!

You got any man bags? How about bags with historical images like John Brown, John C. Calhoun, or maybe Richard Nixon? I'll gladly pay for a nice man bag.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE them all! Especially the bird bag. I must buy that right now! Good luck with your shop Tor!

Love Love Love it!!! I love the fabrics you chose for the inside and I love the style. GREAT FABRIC CHOICES!!

I do like the anthropologie bow look that Megan suggested and maybe lighter colors for summer, but I will be looking into buying one if I don't win.

Soooooo cute!

I actually disagree that your pictures are dark. I think you did a good job photographing your darling bags. I love the bird appliqué. The only thing your totes are missing is an inside pocket...or do they have one and I just didn't notice. This mommas gotta have at least one pocket.

PS- I think your store banner is great too. Very creative.

I like the applique close-ups and the texture-pattern combinations on your bags!! I recommend taking a picture with a person or with something inside so we can tell exactly how big it is and what it fits (the measurements provided should tell us that... I just like pictures).

I would love to see more bags like the pleated market bag (various colors). Those are my absolute favorite!! Is the ribbon detachable or interchangeable? That might be good to note as well. I love the bright patterns on the inside of the bags as well.

I agree with cassandra anne about the birds and maybe introducing a smaller wallet/handbag.

Awesome designs!!!

I think that you are the greatest person ever Tori. I deserve the bag because i am the freaking awesome.

My suggestions are to do seasonal bags. For summer you can make some with suns on them or boats. Fall you can do leaves. Winter you can do snow mans or snow flakes. Spring you can do flowers. Of course you can always expand your imagination further. These are just a few ideas.

Also you could do custom made bags. You could take requests or what they want on a bag. maybe have them give suggestions. Of course, i am not in the "fashion" loop, so i don't know what is "hawt", but you are creative and will do great.

From your loving un brosha

TOR... this is a lot of comments!!! can you tell how obsessed I am with your contest/purses? yes, obsessed.

Oh, Tori! I love, love, love them. Pretty much everything about them. Your craftsmanship is impeccable. I really like the fabric you use inside, where to you get it? I love the bag with the big bow.

I'd love to see something big enough for a diaper bag. And I don't know about anyone else, but I like a bag with a long strap so I can sling it over my shoulder so I'm hands free for the kiddies.

This is just an idea, you may just want to stay with bags, but I've seen these darling little felt hair clips for girls. You could use your signature little creatures or stay simple and do a funky little flower.

Anyway, I'll keep my fingers crossed and think positive thoughts about the owl bag!

Tori -- Amy brought my attention to your sewing last year when you gave her that cute lighter colored purse with the crafted flower. I love it all. I would suggest a few smaller bags (though I like to use big purses) just for a variety and a few lighter colors/looks. Everything is adorable, though. Love it.

Sarah said...

Hi, I found your blog through the apron swap. These purses are really cute. I especially like the pleated ones. I agree with what someone else said about having some bags with color, maybe even some prints as well. Something cute I saw on a blog somewhere that you can do for an embellishment is making a tree out of random buttons. It would work really well with the style of your purses.
Really cute stuff. Good luck with your Etsy shop!

i love tyler's suggestions.

also-love the newest addition to the shop with the bow. you rock!!!

Hahah was that really Tyler? WHO wrote that?!

Anyways, you are so talented! Way to go. I want to buy a bag! I like them all.. I love bags that have the funky lining within them so when you open them people are like "WHOA stinkin' cute purse". You're so hip.

AdAmy said...

I just think your bags are awesome, and that you have so much talent that I'm glad you are using and sharing! I pretty much have all the same thoughts and suggestions as most everyone else so I am for sure a loser, but I guess it gives everyone else a better chance. I think Jordan should win, for sure! ;)

Oo... adorable bags! Cute shop - wish it had more items though!! :P
Are the bags reversible? Would love to see more cute animals on it - perhaps bunnies... :P

Love your ideas! I'm a big fan of the "green" grocery bags these days and so those are my favorites. As far as what I'd like to see more of I guess I'd either like to see a cute "diaper/baby" bag and/or a small wristlet type that could be used by young women or girls (especially if they are a decent price to give as gifts). Thanks and since I may be the winner my e-mail address is: csfish@roadrunner.com

~Stacey (I don't know how to check if anyone sent me a message on the google/blogger account, is there a way?

Tor i love your purses! you know how bad i want one! You are so talented. I love the one with the flowers on the front of it and the stripes inside the bag.I was showing all my sisters your blog and they love the purses also!

Camille said...

Very cute! I heard about you from Abby Eaton's blog. I love the pleats in your bags- and I love the pear/orange leaf bag. Also, I think your pricing is great- a lot of things on Etsy seem expensive & your prices seem very reasonable. My only suggestion is to take a few photos w/a model- just for a visual size reference of how big the bags are.
